7.8 Cold War short review

In time for Hide I thought that I should write my belated Cold War review.

Plot: 4.5/5
Characters: 4/5
Enemies: 5/5
Effects: 4.5/5
Overall: 4.5/5

Plot: Cold War is set on a drowning submarine (Yeah, I don't get it either) where their is an evil Ice Warrior called Skaldak aboard. This is a great episode and it's Mark Gattis' best so far.

Characters: There are good characters in this although some don't have good developments.

Enemies: The Ice Warriors are back, and it's awesome.

Effects: Submarine and a whole new Ice Warrior CGI.

Overall: Reccomended! Full review coming soon.

7.7 The Rings of Akhaten review

Story: 4/5
Characters: 5/5
Enemies: 2.5/5
Effects: 5/5
Overall: 4/5

Story: This episodes story is good. You will either love it or hate it. I do not love it or hate but I think that it's a really good episode. It starts off with a bit about Clara and the end is magnificent. The only downfall is that the enemies are not in it enough as they should have been and the middle is a bit jumbled. The story is about the Doctor and Clara arriving on a planet next to a ginormous sun. Not long after something bad happens when the queen is abducted by an ancient god called The Mummy.

Characters: The main new characters in this episode are Queen Merry and all of the monsters. Merry is played by Emilia Jones and she is a great actress who brings Merry to life. This episode shows a new alien word which is very Star Wars. There are many monsters and it looks like the effects department had a lot to do. The doctor meets and talks to a few and buys something of Dor'een.

Enemies: The downfall of this episode is the enemies. Early on in the episode Merry is seen running away from Darth Vader like creatures called the Vigil. They can teleport and I think they had the potential to be very scary monsters. The bad thing is that they were not used much and had about 7 minutes (maybe even less) of screen time. The other monster is the Mummy who is trapped in a cage and is supposed to be put to sleep although now he wants to wake up and he smashes his cage and then is not seen again for the whole episode. At the end there is an enemy of an old god who feeds on memories and valuable things although he has no character development he is still way better than the other villains.

Effects: From a small sun... "Are you joking it's massive" to the doctor and Clara driving and outer space motorbike. This episode has stunning effects and is probably the best effects that Doctor Who has ever had. They are marvelous.

Overall: This episode is a hit or a miss. The enemies in this episode are failures but the story, characters, effects and drama make up for it. Reccomended!
